When it comes to hosting the Golden Globes, this isn’t Nikki Glaser’s first rodeo. The stand-up comedian and actress, who received a Golden Globe nomination herself last year, became the first woman to host the awards show solo in 2025.
Glaser’s 2025 hosting debut, which critics praised as sharp, witty and charming, helped solidify the ceremony’s revival. As a result, Glaser was almost immediately asked back for the 83rd Golden Globes, which will take place on Jan. 11.
“I just try to write the funniest jokes possible and then imagine saying them to that person,” Glaser told Yahoo regarding how she’s gearing up for this year’s awards show. “If it’s not going to feel comfortable, I don’t need to do it. I love a good joke, but we just have to find a better joke.”
Below, Yahoo rounds up everything there is to know about the soon-to-be two-time Golden Globes host — including how she’s preparing for this year’s show.

What has Glaser said about this year’s Golden Globes?
Before returning to the Golden Globes stage, Glaser tested out some of her material on real audiences at comedy clubs around Los Angeles. During this trial run, she learned that audiences are protective of Julia Roberts, who is nominated this year for Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama for her performance in After the Hunt.
“No one wants you to make fun of America’s Sweetheart. Not even the lightest, most innocent joke,” Glaser told Yahoo in an interview published on Tuesday. “She is the most sacred of cows in America. I assumed that we want to protect her at all costs, but it’s as if I was joking about JonBenét [Ramsey]. [Audiences] were like, ‘This is not funny. We’re not going to laugh about it.’”
One celebrity still manages to make Glaser nervous: Leonardo DiCaprio.
“I grew up being in love with Leo,” Glaser told Yahoo of the One Battle After Another star. “He was a huge part of my sexual awakening as a young girl. I just feel like, for me, he's kind of off-limits in that I can’t even talk to him or look at him. How am I supposed to say his name in front of him?”
Thankfully, Glaser has no shortage of material to work with.
“There's lots to joke about this year — and the star power in the room is going to be bigger than ever. I mean, it's bigger than last year,” she told People earlier this week. “I kind of have to keep wrapping my head around the kind of people that are going to be present in this room.”
How else is Glaser preparing for the 2026 awards show?
While chatting with Entertainment Tonight last month, Glaser revealed that she had started working on her opening monologue for the ceremony. Last year, Glaser said, was about “introducing myself to all these A-listers who may be familiar with me but only really know me from the Tom Brady roast and [think] I’m this really biting, no-holds-barred attack comic.”
Easing the celebrities into her approach to awards show hosting was her biggest concern last year, she said. She hopes that come Sunday, they’ll have grown more relaxed with her.
“I think I struck a really good balance between great jokes that were a little roasty and familiarizing people with my style, but also taking the edge off and celebrating them more,” she told Yahoo. “Going into this time, I thought, Oh, now I’m licensed to go a little harder because the celebrities in the room kind of know who I am. They know what I’m about. They know the temperature of my comedy.”
As for how else she plans to approach this year’s awards ceremony, Glaser hopes to keep at-home viewers — and in-person A-listers — on their toes, she told People: “My goal is always to try to not do what's expected or try to challenge myself to not say the thing that people are going to expect and try something else.”
How was Glaser’s 2025 hosting performance received?
Glaser received critical acclaim for hosting the 2025 Golden Globes. Variety applauded Glaser for resetting the Globes to “its former delightful glory” with her “overarching topics and several laugh-out-loud moments.” The Hollywood Reporter commended Glaser for displaying “above-average hosting” skills while also seeming as though she was actually “enjoying the opportunity.” Rolling Stone gave Glaser a similarly glowing review, praising the comedian for setting the tone “right from the start” and for making “the night a blast.”

Glaser especially excelled at finding the balance between playfully mocking and earnestly celebrating industry stars.
“If I make a joke about a bad movie you did once that you had nothing to do with, other than that you were great in a bad movie, just laugh,” Glaser told Yahoo ahead of the 2025 awards show. “It's a really easy way to look likable to the public and actually it's a great PR move. Everyone in your camp should encourage you to laugh at jokes. It doesn't make you cooler to not laugh. ... I'm trying to make you look good. I really am not out to hurt anyone's career.”
Glaser did, however, tell People that if she goes “harder” on a certain celebrity, it means she’s “really a fan” of theirs and that it “really does come from a place of love.”
